The CSE-Access / CSE-Edit Server will not Connect to my Database

When you start the CSE-Access / CSE-Edit Server you may get an error message showing that the connection to the database was unsuccessful.

This may be because:

1. The necessary pre-requisites were not satisfied.

For MS SQLServer installations, the Network Client utility must be installed on the CSE-Access / CSE-Edit Server machine.

For Oracle installations, an oracle alias for the AllFusion® Gen encyclopedia must be created and the network client software must be installed on the CSE-Access / CSE-Edit Server machine.

2. The alias is incorrect.

For MS SQLServer installations, the entry in cesrv.ini below [MSSQL] should be the name of the MS SQLServer database for the encyclopedia.

For Oracle installations, the entry in cesrv.ini below [ENCYAL] should be the name of the Oracle Alias.Establish that a connection can be made using SQL Plus or Query Analyzer.

3. The user ID and/or password are incorrect.

Verify the user ID and password are correct and establish that a connection can be made using SQL Plus or Query Analyzer. If the password needs changing run svrsetup from the CSE-Access / CSE-Edit Server directory to recreate the cesrv.ini file and encrypt the password.
