Access Gen (TSO)

Access Gen (TSO) has been developed to support CA Gen projects by increasing productivity in excess of 10%. It is a TSO based mainframe application with features specifically targeted to give Host Encyclopedia development teams immediate access to the information that they need on a day-to-day basis and update it without the need to download.

Key product features:

  • Simple 3270 interface
  • Fast object searching and expansion to see how object are related to each other with browse facilities to view their definition or properties.
  • Impact analysis support to identify the impact of changing objects.
  • Version control and comparison features to show where objects exist and display the differences between different versions.
  • Subset and download support - the analysis features of the software offer a powerful way to identify all objects required for a unit of work. Checkout status reports then help prevent downgrades.
  • View size details and a full packaging report to show what's in load modules and highlight potential view size issues when generating.
  • Multi-object reporting offers several features such as version reports, redundant object reports, timestamp comparisons, cross model impact analysis, properties reports and checkout queries for multiple objects.
  • Edit Console add-on features
The Edit Console is an add-on for the TSO version of Access Gen that extends the read only software to have update capability.

  • Subset and download support - the Access Gen software offers a powerful way to identify all objects required for a unit of work. Subsets can then be created or modified quickly and simply from those objects identified. Checkout status reports are built in to the process to help prevent downgrades. Subsets can also be submitted for download.
  • Aggregate set and migration support - create or modify existing aggregate sets in seconds. Initiate migrates from the Edit Console with its own pre-migrate check routine to prevent download failures replacing the time and resource hungry host toolset trial migrate process. The Edit Console will even add objects to migration requests to ensure their success.
  • Publishing - migrate and action block it into a specified model removing its logic, entity action views and local views leaving just import views, export views and first level note statements. Taking seconds to run it utilises an enhanced version of the Edit Console migration checker ensuring all necessary objects are migrated along with the published object. A must for CBD projects or any site using master/stub objects for cross-model interfaces.
  • Direct encyclopedia updates without the need for a download - change the business system for action blocks/procedures, maintain business system libraries, rename objects, delete unused objects, add or update descriptions, modify exit states or add screen/window help IDs, help descriptions and hover help. All changes are subject to the same checks as on the workstation toolset and are completely audited.

  • Access Gen is simple to install and extremely stable. Regardless of development methodology or the type of system being developed, it can be integrated into a CA Gen project addressing a number of issues that arise with development without imposing rigid processes around it's use. Existing processes such as creating subsets for download or aggregate sets for migration, are enhanced significantly to reduce project bottlenecks and ensure traditional pitfalls of development are avoided. It empowers development teams to continue to work they want to work, with maximum efficiency.
