New Software Release
CSE-Edit/Access Version 7.6 is now commercially available with the following enhancements:
· Packaging Report. The Packaging Report has been revamped to detail the full packaged contents of a load module. This includes the dynamic link flag and member name value for all listed objects. The report is also now available from the Pick List so that the packaging details of multiple Load Modules/Procedure Steps can be returned in one operation.
· View Size Calculator. The View Size Calculator has been updated in line with the changes made to the Gen R7.6 Generation Consistency Checker. View Sizes are now calculated for both COBOL and C.
· Custom SQL. The ability to execute your own custom written SQL against multiple encyclopedia objects simultaneously is now available from the CSE-Access Pick List.

R7 Upgrade Support
We have recently made some changes to CE-Access and CE-Edit to aid customers migrating to Gen R7+.
Gen R7 sees an enhancement to the Code Generation Consistency Checker in the way that it calculates the view sizes for generated Procedure Steps and the limits imposed on those views. The limits that apply to the size of import and export views are as follows:
· 31744 bytes for C and COBOL, for non COOP Packaged Procedure Steps.
· 31400 bytes for C and COBOL, for COOP Packaged Server Procedure Steps.
As a result of this, those upgrading to Gen R7+ are required to review those Procedure Steps that may be potentially affected to ensure their imports or exports do not exceed the new limits.
To assist in this process, a new option has been added to the CE-Access/CE-Edit List screen so that all procedure steps can be assessed in one quick operation.
For those customers that use the code generation feature in CE-Access, when upgrading to Gen R7.6 it will be necessary to upgrade to the latest version of CE-Access/Edit which now offers full support for the new Dynamic Linking Flag Compatibility option and the choice of whether to generate load modules marked for compatibility. Customers already at PTF level 35 or above need take no further action. CE-Edit users can also set the Dynamic Linking flag to the new Compatibility setting (for Procedure Steps and Action Blocks) directly in the encyclopedia.
There is no need to delay your CE-Access/Edit upgrade until CA Gen R7.6 is implemented. The latest release of our software is backwards compatible with all versions of CA Gen up to and including R7.6. It is intended that the features described above will aid your CA Gen R7.6 upgrade BEFORE that upgrade takes place.
If you would like any further information on this topic or would like to know how you can obtain the latest version of the software incorporating these changes, then please do not hesitate to get in contact. Alternatively, the software is available from the Support Centre of our website at www.response-systems.com if you already have access.
